My First Thanksgiving Dinner

Thanksgiving is quickly approaching. Two days left. This year I am preparing my first ever Thanksgiving dinner. I guess after 6 years of marriage it's probably about time I did. Growing up I usually helped my mom out in the kitchen but she was always in charge of everything (especially the turkey). Since Steve and I have been married we have always eaten Thanksgiving dinner at his parents' house. Christmas dinner is spent with my family. Anywho, the original plan this year was to yet again spend Turkey Day with the in-laws, but last week we got a call from Steve's sister inviting us and their parents to spend the day with her husband Jim's parents. I thought this would be a good opportunity to make dinner for our family instead. It's not that I don't want to spend the day with Jim's parents. I really like them. But, I would like to finally make dinner for my little family. Plus, my youngest sister is spending this week with us because our parents and brothers are in Cuba until Sunday. I know that she would be more comfortable here.

On Sunday I did all of the shopping for the big day. The menu will include turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes and gravy, fruit salad and crescent rolls. For dessert I am going to try my hand at making Marble Pumpkin Cheesecake. The 2 things I am nervous about are the turkey and the cheesecake. I have never cooked a whole bird and I have never made a cheesecake. It will be interesting to see how everything turns out. That is why I am taking this opportunity to make my first Thanksgiving dinner. It will just be my husband, kids and little sister. If things don't turn out well they won't mind too much and neither will I. If it was going to be a big group of people I know that I would be stressing out big time.

Tomorrow I will get my special occasion dishes out of the garage and use them for the first time. I have never had a good enough reason to unpack them but I think this will be a good time to get them out. I am also going to make the cheesecake tomorrow afternoon and tomorrow night I will start to prepare the turkey.

I know that it will be a lot of work, but I am counting on a lot of help from Steve with the baby and my little sister is good at keeping the girls occupied. I am actually excited about making the dinner. I think it will be a good day.

Robitussin Is My New Best Friend

For the last few days I have been battling a cold. It has not been fun and of course they never are. I got it from my oldest daughter. She started coming down with a cough last weekend and by the middle of the week our youngest daughter had a runny nose and by Friday night I felt like I was starting to come down with it. I felt fine most of Saturday but by that evening I was starting to feel it again. That night we forgot to run the humidifier and when I got up with the baby in the middle of the night I knew I had it. It didn't help that he kept me up for 2 hours. I spent yesterday trying to rest but that can be difficult with 3 little ones. Steve is very good about helping me out though. Our son has had a slightly stuffy nose. Nothing too serious yet. So far Steve is the only one not affected by the illness in our household. I have been feeling a little better today. Enough that I was able to do some grocery shopping. Hopefully, the baby will sleep well tonight and I will get over this thing soon.

A New 'Do

I got my haircut on Saturday. This isn't a big deal to most people but it's the shortest I have ever cut my hair. It is actually above my shoulders. I have had it close to this before but never quite this short. My hair had just been bugging me so much ever since the birth of our son and I thought it was time for a change.

I always get my hair cut after I have a baby. I don't know why. I know other women who do as well. I know my mom always did. I don't know if it is a fear of letting myself go or if I want to prove that I can still be stylish and attractive even though I just had a baby. Who knows? All I know is that my hair was bugging me and I wanted something different. I might let it grow back long, but for now I like it at it's current length. And, it dries so much faster after my shower. :-)

My Blog is Worth...

My blog is worth $2,822.70.
How much is your blog worth?

I don't know what good this does me. It's not like I'm selling my blog. Unless someone is interested. Any takers? I could use the extra money. :-)
