An Old Friend

Today has been a good day. I met up with a friend who I have not seen in 7 years. Last week I found my friend Rachel on myspace. I had looked for her on there in the past and was not able to find her but last week I decided to try again and voila! I found her! We started emailing back and forth and she told me that she was going to be in CDA this week visiting her dad and she wanted to get together so we could catch up and our kids could meet. Of course I was up for that. I gave her my number and told her to call me when she had the chance and we would try to work out a time to get together. Well, she called me yesterday afternoon and we agreed to meet today at the Ft. Sherman playground. It was so great to see her again. And, it was kinda weird to introduce our kids to each other. Our 4 year old daughters hit it off right away. Her son is almost 2 and so him and H stayed pretty close to us since they are both kind of shy.

Rachel and I first met when we were both 11 years old and in the 6th grade. We were best friends through jr. high and the first couple of years of high school. It was about our jr. year of high school that we started to drift apart. I don't really know why we drifted apart. We never had a falling out or anything like that. I guess our lives just started taking us down different paths. The last time I saw Rachel was at my bridal shower about a month before Steve and I got married. So, that was 7 years ago this month. I had heard through the grapevine that she had moved to Oregon shortly after that and so I lost track of her except for the little tidbits of information that I or my mom would get from her family members when we ran into them around town.

It was so great to see her! I think I already said that. In a way I was a little nervous about seeing her again. It had been so long and I was worried that it would be awkward. But, it wasn't. We were able to talk just like old times. I wished we could have seen each other longer because we still have a lot to catch up on but she has a busy schedule this week. At least now we can keep in touch because we have each other's email addresses and phone numbers. We have no excuse now for not keeping in touch. She tries to make it back over here every couple of months so hopefully I'll get to see her again soon. I am just so happy that an old friendship has been restored. :)

Did You Miss Me?

Wow! It has been a long time since the last time I posted. I have been busy. Not with anything really exciting. Just busy.

We took a trip to Newport, Oregon right after Memorial Day weekend. It was fun except that the weather was not too good. We took the kids to the Oregon Coast Aquarium and they really seemed to enjoy that. We were disappointed that the weather was not better because we really wanted to take the girls down to the beach so they could see the ocean up close. Hopefully, we will have another opportunity to take them to the coast.

We have spent the last two weekends celebrating H's 2 1/2 birthday. Two Sundays ago we spent the afternoon celebrating with my family and we spent last Sunday celebrating with Steve's family. I know it sounds kinda weird when I say that we celebrated her 2 1/2 birthday but we did that because her birthday is December 29th. It is so close to Christmas that we thought it would be better to spread things out a little bit. It's easier on the checking account too.

Last night Steve and I (along with a couple of other adults) took some of the youth group kids to serve dinner at the Union Gospel Mission. Our youth group goes once a month but this was the first time that Steve and I had gone. The other youth leaders and most of the youth group are in Greeley, Colorado this week doing Vacation Bible School for another church so we had a very small group with us. We had a lot of fun though. The youth group that I went to in high school used to serve dinner to the homeless once a month at City Gate in downtown Spokane and I had forgotten how much I enjoyed doing that. Most of the people are so grateful and it really is a blessing to be able to serve them.

This summer looks like it is shaping up to be a pretty busy one. We have a lot of youth activities planned and just trying to make time for our family is getting more difficult. We are happy though and God is taking care of us. We couldn't ask for anything more.
